We have all heard it… “content is king”. I personally have experienced the difference that creating consistent, high quality content can make for your online presence.
One of the things I struggled with the most as a blogger was the actual planning and creation of relevant content for my blog and my social media channels.
I always felt rushed when posting last minute and my posts were not always in alignment with my goals for the months because I was creating them at the last minute.
It wasn’t that I waited to create my posts but that I had a hard time finding a “recipe” I could apply over and over again while being successful in my efforts to help others and grow my reach.
Thankfully, and after so many lessons, I have mastered content planning and creation and today I will guiding you create 30 days of Instagram content in just a few simple steps.
Before We Get Started
Please remember that Instagram is all about building relationships and community. So let’s keep the self-promotion under control here. There is no better way to promote yourself than to actually help others in whatever area you are an expert in.
Believe me when I say that clients and customers will come looking to buy from you when they see how much you actually care! Ok… Comencemos!
Paso 1: Decide Your Month’s Theme
Here is a major tip that simplified things for me tons!
Look at the holiday calendar and identify any potential holidays along with corresponding hashtags that you think your audience might enjoy. This is also a great way to spark your creativity and get ideas about posts, captions and even photoshoots!
After looking at the month ahead and seeing the holidays and observances in advance you will be able to pick a theme for the month that will be relevant. This will allow you to use popular celebrations as anchor for your overall monthly content strategy! Toma!
Let’s say you are a fashion blogger, for instance… being aware and preparing content around fashion week in February is something you might want to do.
Noting this in advance will give you the advantage to have content that is ready with the right hashtags. This can help increase your engagement and reach a lot because we all know a lot of people love following up with holidays and trending events on social media!
Some examples of a February’s holiday/observation themes are Black History Month Valentine’s Day.
Here is complete list of other holidays you can use as inspiration for your Instagram posts!
Paso 2: Research Important + Related Hashtags
Hashtags are a very important part of Instagram. They are on the best way to create community around similar content and the key to actually finding what you are looking for on Instagram.
I like to think of hashtags as I think of keywords on Google or Pinterest. These little words that start with # can be the key to being found by your ideal client, follower or customer on the gramm people!
After looking at your holidays it is smart to brainstorm and research a list of possible hashtags that will be trending for the month so you can apply those to your content and give it more chance of being seen by the right pair of eyes.
Also remember to have a list of targeted hashtags that relate to your content categories that you can use everytime you post in addition to your monthly theme ones.
Paso 3: If You Have A Blog, Plan Out When You Will Be Publishing Your Blog Posts
Planning your editorial calendar comes in handy when planning your Instagram content because it can help you determine what days you will be promoting your new blog posts on Instagram. This in itself is ideal for content!
It also can help you promote any “freebies” or lead magnets you might have to your Instagram followers… and in turn get your more email subscribers. Muy importante!
Paso 4: Let’s Start A Conversation: List Influencers And Followers To Mention Or Tag
This is something that has helped me create relationships with brands, influencers and even followers.
Mentioning and Tagging others on your posts brings more brand awareness to you. Make a good list so you can alternate who you tag and mention from post to post and make sure these are people that your audience is or might be interested in.
Don’t forget to be genuine and actually follow the brand you’re tagging!
Paso 5: Share You Knowledge By Giving Away Your Best Tips + Tricks
The best way to showcase your talents is by sharing what you know with others. Sharing tips and tricks in your niche can help you establish yourself as an authority in your area.
These type of posts are also a fantastic way to stay in brand without being promotional. They are as simple as sharing a step-by-step or pulling a quote from one of your blog posts!
Paso 6: Let Your Followers Know You Better
I see a lot of personal brands on Instagram who only post quotes, promotional posts and events about their brand and to be honest I don’t understand why!
Unless you are Anthropology or Target, you should be posting more about YOU! We want to see the face behind the blog, service, product! That is what makes Instagram so cool.
Have you noticed how big brands hire Influencers to represent them. Know why? Because knowing that a PERSON is behind something makes us trust it more.
By showing up more on your feed and letting people see a bit more about you, your life or even your workday can help you build that “know, like and trust” factor that we need to be memorable and connect.
However, unless you are a Kardashian people don’t JUST want to hear about what you had for breakfast, they also want value that they can take home.
One advice I do want you to keep in mind is to keep the harmony between “behind the scenes” content and content that is actually designed to serve your audience. Sometimes these two will collide and that is just the perfect combo!
Paso 7: What If You Are Running Low On Pics?!
When running low on content or photos I recommend finding some inspirational or funny quotes that your audience might enjoy to fill in the gaps.
You can also make this a part of your monthly strategy to take a bit of pressure off having to take fresh photos all the time!
One thing I recommend is going on Instagram and finding alread popular content that your audience would like and reposting it. Make sure you tag the source, of course. You can do this for your feed and your stories too!
If you like the quotes but don’t like the style you can always create your own using one of the many quote making apps right on your phone.
Paso 8: Gather + Edit Your Images
The final step before being IG ready for the next 30 days is gathering all your images, links, tags, hashtags, and the captions you will be using.
I suggest you do things in the following order:
- Select the images you will be sharing
- Edit your images to your taste or to match your feed theme
- Add your captions
- Mention relevant accounts
- Add you hashtags under your caption or leave them as a comment
- Schedule your post!
There you have a perfect way to start planning and creating your Instagram calendar for the month.
